It’s always a good feeling to lay our hands on a fresh wedding with so much inspirations to glean from. Jide Odukoya‘s wedding is no exception. Lola and Tunde’s white and traditional wedding looks like so much fun and we are happy to share their own story too..See their choice of colors and learn..xx
Bride
It all started during my 400 level first semester exams. I used to study in faj café as my other favorite joints (ODLT and White house) were used as exam venues. There came this young man I have known since my 100 level days to my table to say hello almost every day. After some time I started receiving text messages and I began to wonder what the dude was up to. Next it was visits to my room in Moremi Hall.
The day he finally made his intentions known, I laughed so hard as he struggled to put the words together. It was a very funny proposal I must say, and I told him to give me some time to think about it. We started hanging out a lot from new buka to pit theatre car park until he travelled to Lagos and I also started my internship in Lagos. We always had lunch together from Broad street joints to Marina street joints.
I have always admired Tunde (love at first sight I’ll say) so it made the proposal process very easy for him. I did not give him a tough time and on August 22nd, 2007, I finally said YES. Tunde and I have come a long way and I have never for once had any regrets over the “YES” I said more than 5 years ago or doubted if he’s the right one for me (a.k.a . Mr. Right….lol). I love him so much and I’m very excited we’re getting married.
Groom
It was towards the end of my 1st Semester 500L exams, and I can’t just explain why I kept noticing this gal on the way to my room in Faj. from the ever popular Law 209 (I go there to actually read…unlike most ). She was always sitting on the opposite end of Faj café and my mind kept telling me…”Guy, na correct specs be dis o….you no go do quick before some other broses come hayaj am”. One peculiar thing about that period was that my heart yearned for a different kind of friendship…It was really weird.
Lola and I had been acquaintances before (she was my classmate’s sister), so going up to chat her up wasn’t so difficult. The problem was that I didn’t want to chat her frequently, else it may seem obvious, since we weren’t too close, so I had to make do with standing on Faj common room corridor (upstairs) everyday on my way back from Law, staring at that same corner of Faj café, sometimes for close to one hour (and I mean EVERYDAY she was there!!!).
When I couldn’t bear it anymore, I had to use scope to get her phone and room Nos. forming friendly visit (me wey I no dey enter woman hostel). After the room visit, I didn’t know why she agreed (maybe it was my Killer swag), but she said it was ok that I come visit her at home in Quarters (Yea…in her Father’s house!!!). At that point my mind was already made up. I was going to make my FIRST EVER Proposal.
With all the confidence I could muster (not to mention prayer and fasting), I went to her house via Pipi’s (a friend) BQ and we talked, but I couldn’t bring myself to say what I really wanted to say (Omo…nadat day I know say liver dey cut). After gisting, as she was walking me back to Pipi’s place, my whole heart was pounding and saying …”if you f^#K up and you no talk, thunder go fire u today”…..It felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest. Anyways….I just said it ‘confidently’ (don’t believe her own version….. she was too overwhelmed, that’s why she misinterpreted my (just slightly) shaky baritone voice).
So the rest as they say…..is Mathematics (hehehe)
In all, my attraction to her was her simplicity and her nice dress sense, not to mention her (only small) beauty. I usually tell myself she’s the ONLY worthwhile accomplishment that I gained from all those (unnecessary) years at Ife … and I still mean it!!…
By the way, I would like to give a special shout out to Janus Friis and NiklasZennström (go figure), for their support of our love and that of many others round the world
