Virgin Radio Host Nira Arora Talks Up Her Town, Vancouver

Forget toast and scrambled eggs. Most mornings we scramble to get out the door in a reasonable outfit that won't raise eyebrows at the office (clean, appropriate, not chosen from the floor). But Nira Arora, host at 94.5 Virgin Radio and mother of two, has to be a morning person. Not only is she cheery and perspicacious over the a.m. airwaves, but she always looks great too. In advance of our Vancouver store opening (did we mention it's September 18?), we chatted with Arora about her look and her city. As usual, she had plenty to say. What three words would you use to describe Vancouver style?

Chic, casual, sophisticated.

With 24 hours in Vancouver and no plans, what would you do?

I would shop on West 4th Street, have lunch at Granville Island, go for a walk at Stanley Park, then have dinner and drinks in Gastown.

What is the best time of day in Vancouver?

I love the afternoon, the hustle and bustle of the city. It's so lively on a patio, just people watching.

Do you have a favorite date-night destination?

Going for a walk at White Rock beach, hitting a patio with a view of the ocean for fish and chips and wine.

Tell us about your charity work in Vancouver.

I've volunteered with numerous charities in Vancouver, whether it's hosting and MCing events, volunteering time or guest speaking. A few of the charities that I have worked with continuously are United Way, the Salvation Army, YMCA, the MS Society, Aga Khan Foundation, BC Cancer Society, BC Children's Hospital, the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau and the food bank.

Do you have favorite designers to wear when attending charity events?

A few of my favorite pieces have been from Robert Rodriguez, Pink Tartan, Betsey Johnson, Obakki and BCBG.

You have two beautiful little boys. What are your favorite things to do with them in Vancouver?

They love the Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, going to the beach for a picnic, playing in the sand and looking for rocks. We go exploring all the time. We take a couple of shovels, a bucket and binoculars and look for little critters in parks. They also love going to the local farms and seeing all the animals, and to Playland at the Pacific National Exhibition every summer.

Do they like shopping?

Not really, unless we are shopping for toys or shoes. The only other thing they enjoy is shopping for fruits and veggies at farmers markets.

You also have an English bulldog named BosKo. What are his favorite spots?

BosKo loves the dog beach at White Rock-by far that would be his favorite.

As excited as we are for our new Vancouver store? Catch up on our other city-centric coverage.
